The ROAD ahead...
Last night, the people of Newark soundly defeated a proposal to increase our income taxes from 1.75% to 1.9% to pay for working on our roads. While this outcome disappoints me, it is a message that I understand and that our elected officials must hear loud and clear. So, what's next? In my personal opinion, City Council and the Mayor must comb through the budget to find the money for these needed repairs by cutting spending elsewhere. I can see no other obvious mandate from the citizens of Newark, because they definitely want the roads to get worked on, but refuse to shoulder any more of the burden to do so. What happens between now and a year from now to address this will be very interesting.
